Two different things are called ammo
This is the distinction the rest of the page hangs on, and the cited guide calls it “the mix-up that costs new players money”. Ammo Supplies are a building resource. They feed emplacements — the guns your team hammered into the dirt — and they will not put a single round into the rifle on your back. The rounds for your own weapon are bought somewhere else entirely, from a different vendor, in a different category.
| What you buy | What it feeds | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Ammo Supplies | Buildable FOB weapons | Must be inside a FOB radius |
| Loose ammo boxes | Your own magazines | Matching calibre |
Rounds for your own gun: the infantry vendor, in that order
The reported purchase is three choices in sequence at the infantry vendor — the gun, then a magazine compatible with it, then the ammunition type. That ordering is why “I bought ammo and my inventory is still empty” is a common report: a purchase that skips the magazine step leaves you with rounds and nothing to load them into. Filling the magazine afterwards is a separate action again, and it has its own page.
Ammo Supplies: bought from a vehicle, not on foot
The purchase happens from inside a vehicle, because the resource needs a crate and the crate needs somewhere to go. The reported sequence: sit in a vehicle's driver seat and press B to open the Garage Vendor, buy a Small Crate for $200 under Logistics › Crates, then buy Ammo Supplies for $10 per item under Building › Utility. Drive into a friendly FOB radius and press G to drop the crate next to the buildable weapon — you do not need to leave the seat.
- 01
Get a vehicle with crate capacity
The Garage Vendor opens from the driver's seat with B. An infantry vendor cannot sell you this resource.
- 02
Buy the crate first
Small Crate, $200, under Logistics › Crates. Without a crate the resource has nowhere to go.
- 03
Load it with Ammo Supplies
$10 per item under Building › Utility. Reported as 50 units per purchase.
- 04
Drop it inside the FOB radius
Drive in, press G beside the buildable weapon. Outside the radius the crate does nothing.
What the item screen reports
Read off the cited guide's detail table on 11 September 2026, not from a client this site has run. Prices and unlock levels are exactly the kind of value a patch moves, so treat the row below as dated rather than current.

Outside the FOB radius it is dead weight
This is the single most reported failure and the guide attributes the limit to the item's own in-game description rather than to a player's theory: the crate needs a FOB radius to be used at all. Outside that radius it does nothing, and it will never top up a magazine for the gun in your hands. So if you bought a stack, drove it to a firefight and watched it do nothing, the crate was almost certainly outside a radius — and a full backpack of 5.56 will never reload a mounted gun either.
The mortar, the C-RAM and the anti-air all drink from one pool
More people search for what ammunition the anti-air emplacement takes than for anything else on this topic, and the reported answer is that the question does not apply: you do not choose an ammunition type for it. Shells are drawn from the ammunition stock held by the Forward Operating Base you are attached to — the same pool that feeds systems like the C-RAM and the Strela launchers. When the FOB runs dry the tube goes quiet regardless of how good your firing solution is. That is also why a mortar crew and an air-defence crew can starve each other without either noticing.
Restocking the FOB itself is manual
Resupply is reported as a hand-carried loop rather than an automatic trickle. Resources arrive at the FOB in crates that someone carries in a backpack and deposits through the small terminal on the building — the same terminal that displays the base's current inventory, which is where to look before starting a sustained fire mission. Trucks and helicopters such as the UH-1 can drop pallets closer to the line; each unpacked pallet is reported to deliver around 1,800 resource points, spread across building supplies, fuel, ammunition and spare parts depending on what the driver or pilot bought.
What is not established
How much of the pool a single shot costs. A figure for this circulates — a per-shell Ammo Supplies cost, and a barrage total derived from it — and it is not published in either source cited here; checking the cited page's actual bytes rather than a summary of them turns up neither number. So this page does not print one. Also unestablished: whether the 1,800-point pallet figure holds after a patch, what share of a pallet lands as ammunition rather than fuel or spare parts, and whether any of the prices above survived Patch 0.11.
The ammunition types themselves, and which weapons take them →
Before any of this: the FOB the supplies go into
Everything on this page assumes a friendly FOB is already down, because Ammo Supplies do nothing outside its zone. Buying one ($7,500 since Season 1), getting it placed, the three situations where placement refuses, and the other three supply types it runs on are set out on their own page.
A per-shell figure has since been printed
All Things How’s 14 September guide to building the L81 mortar — a different page from the two cited here — says each mortar shell consumes 30 Ammo Supplies, so a three-round barrage burns 90. Two other guides describe shell cost differently: $600 a shell in one, no separate purchase at all in another. None is BULKHEAD’s, and the mortar page sets all three side by side.
Common questions
Why does my ammo crate do nothing?
The most reported reason is that it is outside a FOB radius. Ammo Supplies only reload buildable FOB weapons, and the item's in-game description states the radius requirement. Outside it the crate is dead weight, and it never reloads a hand-carried gun in any case.
How do I get ammo for my own rifle in WARDOGS?
At the infantry vendor, not the Garage Vendor. The reported order is gun, then a compatible magazine, then the ammunition type. Buying rounds without the matching magazine is why some players report an empty inventory after paying.
Does a FOB give you ammo for your gun?
Not for the gun in your hands. A FOB's ammunition stock feeds its buildable weapons — mortars, the C-RAM, Strela launchers. Rounds for your own weapon are a separate purchase at the infantry vendor.
What ammo does the anti-air use in WARDOGS?
You do not pick one. Reported behaviour is that emplacements draw from the Forward Operating Base's shared ammunition stock — the same pool that feeds the mortar and the C-RAM — so the question is how full the FOB is, not which ammunition type to buy.
How much does a mortar shell cost in Ammo Supplies?
Not established. A per-shell figure circulates but neither source cited here contains it, and this page will not print a number it cannot trace. What is reported is that shells come from the FOB's shared stock and that the tube stops when that stock runs out.
How do you resupply a FOB?
Reported as manual: crates carried in a backpack and deposited through the small terminal on the building, which also shows current inventory. Trucks and helicopters such as the UH-1 can drop pallets closer to the line, each reported at around 1,800 resource points across several resource types.

Procedure, prices and the FOB-radius rule are attributed to two All Things How guides published 11 September 2026, the day after Early Access opened — so they describe the launch build rather than a beta. This site has not reproduced any of it. Menus, prices and unlock levels can change in a patch; check your own client.
