Season 3 is now dated for 12 November after the progression response
Two days after the Driver correction, BULKHEAD said the deliberate Season 02 progression speed-up was the wrong call because some players reached Tier 4 armour and main battle tanks within days. A later developer response on Steam now says Season 3 has been brought forward to 12 November 2026 for a fresh start. It still supplies no replacement XP table, per-action rate, maintenance window or reset clock.
Season 02 day one: Driver ran 40–50% ahead, then received a temporary correction
BULKHEAD’s 15 October studio video says Driver progression was around 40–50% faster than the other role tracks in its early Season 02 data. The studio attributes that to the logistics streak setup and an abused exploit, says a temporary backend fix moved streak spacing back toward Season 1, and plans another hotfix. It does not publish the replacement streak thresholds or a per-action XP table. This is the first official comparison of role speed, but it describes a configuration the studio was already correcting — not a route to copy.

There is no class to pick, so there is no class to level
This is the part that makes the usual question the wrong shape. WARDOGS does not ask you to choose Support at a menu and then grind Support. BULKHEAD’s launch-weekend graphic says role XP is awarded on item usage, not on fixed classes — so the role you are levelling at any moment is decided by the kit in your hands. Carry a defibrillator and you are earning Medic XP; get in the driver’s seat and you are earning Driver XP. You can move between all six inside a single life, and nothing locks you out of the others.
How an unlock reads: track, level, unlock payment and price →
- Six role tracks: Infantry (called Assault in the press release), Medic, Recon, Support, Pilot, Driver.
- A separate account-wide Career ladder — often written WARDOG level — runs alongside them and gates its own items.
- No class selection, no respec, and no skill tree.
What each role actually levels from
The mechanism is publisher-stated; the specific items below are the ones BULKHEAD’s own Season 1 changelog gates behind each track, which is the closest thing to a published list of what belongs to a role. Read the right-hand column as “the equipment this track is about”, not as a complete inventory — no full per-role item list has been published.
The Medic kit and its unlock levels →
| Track | What earns its XP | Items the changelog gates behind it |
|---|---|---|
| Infantry / Assault | Using infantry weapons and equipment | Rifle ammunition types sit on the Career ladder, not this one |
| Medic | Using medical equipment | PP-19 50-round drum, Medic 29 |
| Recon | Using reconnaissance equipment, including sniper and marksman rifles | Sniper unlocks — beta records only, see below |
| Support | Using support equipment | Large Hammer, Support 8 |
| Pilot | Flying | No Pilot-gated item survives Season 1’s list — Music Tape H moved to Driver 23 |
| Driver | Driving ground vehicles | Ten gated vehicles and loadout items, Driver 3 to Driver 35 |
The Driver track is the one with a published ladder
If you are levelling Driver, this is the most complete published answer on the site, because Season 1 moved almost every ground vehicle and printed the new level beside the old one. These are the levels the changelog leaves in force. Nothing here tells you how long any of it takes — only what each level is worth.

The Career ladder is separate, and Season 1 made it slower
Levelling a role and levelling your account are two different ladders and they gate different things. BULKHEAD slowed levels 10 to 20 and flattened progression from 35 onward, and published the size of the change at one point on the curve: the XP band for level 20 went from 111,500 to 250,000. That is the only published before-and-after number on the curve itself, and it is more than a doubling — so any guide written against the closed beta understates the climb by a wide margin.
| Career-gated item | Season 1 level | Was |
|---|---|---|
| Sports Parachute | Career 35 | Career 36 |
| Large Backpack | Career 55 | Career 56 |
| 762x54mm AP | Career 82 | Career 83 |
| 556mm AP | Career 83 | Career 85 |
| Deagle | Career 85 | Career 90 |
| Artillery Tank | Career 90 | Career 55 |
Recon: the only numbers are beta numbers, and they say so
Recon is the track people ask about most after Support, and it is the one where the published record is weakest. The levels below come from a condensed closed-beta progression track, not from Early Access, and every one of them carries a second cost — an unlock payment that is separate from the price you pay to carry the rifle into a life. They are recorded here because they are the only per-level Recon figures anyone has published, and they are labelled beta for the same reason.

Which role levels fastest? Driver briefly did — and BULKHEAD corrected it
The September launch-weekend earned-XP split still does not answer which role pays fastest: it is a share of what everyone did, not a rate. The new fact is narrower and later: BULKHEAD says Driver ran around 40–50% ahead of other tracks during the first day of Season 02, then applied a temporary backend correction. Because the studio attributes the gap to streak tuning and an exploit it is fixing, that observation is not a durable ranking or safe levelling method.
Every launch-weekend figure, and the clock range behind them →
| Role | Press release | Official graphic |
|---|---|---|
| Support | 21.42% | 21% |
| Assault / Infantry | 20.54% | 20% |
| Medic | 19.97% | 20% |
| Recon | 18.66% | 19% |
| Driver | 10.57% | 11% |
| Pilot | 8.70% | 9% |
What is not established, stated plainly
This is the half of the answer that the guides ranking above this page leave out. None of the sources checked for this page publishes any of the following, and this site will not fill them in from a plausible guess:
- The XP awarded for any single action — a revive, a kill, a resupply, a tower capture, a drop-off.
- How much XP the levels between the published steps cost — the Season 02 patch notes give totals only for levels 10, 15, 20 and so on to 50 (below).
- How long any role takes to level, in matches or in hours.
- The current post-correction speed of each role. BULKHEAD says Driver had been 40–50% faster on Season 02 day one, but publishes no replacement rate after its temporary backend change.
- Whether role XP and Career XP are earned from the same actions at the same time.
- A complete list of the items on any track.
One way to lose the levels you have
Worth knowing before you go looking for a shortcut, because the shortcuts are what Patch 0.11 is about. BULKHEAD’s Patch 0.11 notice says repeated abuse of a cash exploit can bring a timed ban together with a reset of cash and XP to zero, and that spending more than a few minutes on a server identified as XP farming can lead to a permanent ban. It publishes no list of flagged servers and no detection threshold, so there is no line here to stay on the right side of by measurement.
Season 02: the XP each role level needs
From 15 October every role level up to 50 needs less XP. BULKHEAD’s Season 02 patch notes say reaching level 20 now takes less than half the Season 1 playtime, and print the totals. They also move role XP between tracks: destroying buildables, IEDs and C4 now pay Assault XP instead of Support, artillery pays Driver XP, and repairs pay Driver or Pilot XP depending on the vehicle.

Common questions
How do you level up Support in WARDOGS?
By using Support equipment. BULKHEAD’s official launch-weekend graphic states that role XP is awarded on item usage rather than on a fixed class, so Support XP comes from carrying and using the Support kit rather than from selecting a class. No official source publishes what any individual Support action is worth in XP, how much XP a Support level costs, or how long the track takes, so no number of that kind appears on this site.
How do you level up Recon in WARDOGS?
By using Recon equipment, including the sniper and marksman rifles that track gates. The only per-level Recon figures anyone has published come from a condensed closed-beta track — Mosin Nagant at Recon 10, SV98 at Recon 19, MK22 at Recon 25, AMR 50 at Recon 35, each with a separate unlock payment on top of the rifle’s per-life price. Those are beta records, not Early Access values, and they are labelled as such.
What is the fastest way to level up in WARDOGS?
No stable route is published. BULKHEAD says Driver had run around 40–50% faster than other roles on the first day of Season 02, but it attributed that to logistics streak tuning and an abused exploit and applied a temporary correction. No post-correction rate or per-action XP table is published. The studio says extreme repeated abuse of the Driver exploit can bring a 24-hour temporary ban.
Does WARDOGS have a skill tree?
No. Progression runs on six role tracks levelled by item usage plus a separate account-wide Career ladder, and items are gated by a level on a named track rather than by nodes you spend points on. BULKHEAD’s “Early Access & Beyond” post names a Player Skills & Challenge System as something to build during Early Access, which is a plan rather than a shipped feature.
What are the six WARDOGS roles?
Infantry, Medic, Recon, Support, Pilot and Driver, named in BULKHEAD’s official launch-weekend graphic. The accompanying BULKHEAD and Team17 press release calls the Infantry role Assault. Both labels are in official text, so both are preserved here rather than one being silently chosen.
Is role XP the same as WARDOG or Career level?
No. They are separate ladders that gate different items. Season 1 moved the Heavy Tank off Career 35 onto Driver 35 and the Artillery Tank from Career 55 to Career 90, which is the clearest published demonstration that the two are distinct. Whether the same action feeds both at once is not established.
How much XP does a WARDOGS level take?
One band is published and only one: Season 1 changed the level-20 XP requirement from 111,500 to 250,000, and slowed levels 10 to 20 while flattening progression from 35 onward. The Season 02 patch notes of 14 October then published totals for levels 10, 15, 20 and every fifth level to 50, cutting level 20 back to 111,500; they are tabled on the progression page.
Sources & verification
The mechanism, six role names and earned-XP split come from BULKHEAD’s launch-weekend graphic and the matching publisher release. The 15 October backend-update video is the source for Driver running around 40–50% faster in early Season 02 data and for the temporary correction. On 17 October the studio said the wider deliberate progression speed-up was the wrong call, but still published no per-action rate or replacement XP table. The sniper examples keep their condensed closed-beta label.
