WARDOGS mortar calculator

Pick the map and the gun — the L81 mortar or the SPH-2 — tap where it stands and tap the target. You get the bearing to turn to, the range in metres and the sight’s mils; the rings show how far the gun reaches from there.

Mils from the community calculator apollyon-sys/wardogs-calculator’s measured firing tables (MIT, commit d9c27b7, read 12 October 2026). Not BULKHEAD’s numbers, and for level ground: height is not included.

The board is saved on this device. A tap is only as precise as your finger, so for a real shot paste or type the numbers from right-click → Mark Coordinates. See the Bakurani map page for its towers and spawns.

How to use it on a real shot

  1. Build and mount the mortar, then open the map in game.
  2. Right-click your position and the target and choose Mark Coordinates. Type both pairs into the boxes above; a tap on this map is only as precise as your finger.
  3. Ping the target on the map and turn the tube until the ping’s diamond is centred on its compass. That is the direction; no bearing number is needed.
  4. Set the RNG scale to the range shown here and fire one round. Watch it land, correct one value at a time, then fire for effect.

Prefer numbers to the compass diamond? Turn to the bearing shown above and dial the mils instead of the RNG scale. For the SPH-2 that is the only way: it has no RNG scale to set.

Scouting positions first? Drop pins on the interactive map and send them here: the first pin becomes the gun and the rest become targets.

Building the L81, what a shell costs and how to stay alive behind it are in the full mortar guide.

What this deliberately does not do

Correct for height
One guide reports about 735 m for a target 100 m below the tube and about 625 m for one 100 m above it. The contour lines cannot give a reliable height for a tapped point, so the range here is flat-ground distance.

Where the mils come from

BULKHEAD has published no range table for either gun. The mils here are the firing tables of the open-source community calculator apollyon-sys/wardogs-calculator, copied at commit d9c27b7 on 12 October 2026 under its MIT licence. Its author records them as measured in game, and the repository keeps a dated set of test shots against them. That makes them the best public numbers there are, not official ones, which is why the mil readout above is grey rather than gold.

What the table covers
GunRangeArcs
L81 mortar132–684 mOne
SPH-2 artillery780–2,629 mHigh from 780 m; low from about 1,180 m

Between two rows the calculator interpolates in a straight line. The L81 table stops at 684 m, the shorter end of the 684–700m reach the guides report, so a target at the outer edge shows a range but no mil. Height still is not included. A target below you is in effect further away — one guide reports the L81 reaching about 735 m downhill and 625 m uphill — so on a high arc it needs a few more mils than the table gives, and a target above you a few fewer.

Common questions

Is there a WARDOGS artillery calculator?

Yes. This page turns two map positions into a bearing, the range in metres and the sight's mils for the L81 mortar and for the SPH-2 self-propelled gun, both arcs. The mils come from a community calculator's measured firing tables; BULKHEAD has published none.

How far can the L81 mortar shoot in WARDOGS?

Guides report roughly 684 to 700 m on flat ground, with a dead zone near the tube quoted as 50, 80 or 130 m. BULKHEAD has published no official figure. Firing downhill stretches the reach and uphill shortens it.

Why does the calculator not give mils?

It does now. Until 12 October it gave only metres, because BULKHEAD has published no range table. The mils it prints come from the open-source calculator apollyon-sys/wardogs-calculator, whose tables were measured in game and are released under the MIT licence. They are in the sight's own mil scale, not NATO mils, and they assume level ground.

How do I use the SPH-2 artillery calculator?

Choose SPH-2, tap the gun and the target (or paste the Mark Coordinates numbers), turn the hull to the bearing and dial the mils. Between 780 and about 1,180 m only the high arc works; beyond that you can choose the low arc, which lands sooner, or the high arc, which clears ridges.

Can my squad see the same targets?

Copy the share link under the target list and send it. Whoever opens it gets the same map, gun position and targets. It is a snapshot, not a live board, so send a new link when the targets change.

Where the numbers came from

The arithmetic (one map unit is 100 m) and the reach and dead-zone figures come from dated community guides; their table, with each guide’s date, is on the mortar guide. BULKHEAD has published none of them.

The map sheets and their coordinate frame come from the community calculator apollyon-sys/wardogs-calculator at a pinned commit, checked against two game-file datamines: tower positions agree to about 20–40 m. Every map position is graded unverified; see the maps database for the comparison.
