The WARDOGS Artillery Tank

The WARDOGS Artillery Tank (SPH-2): Career 90 and $500,000 to unlock, $8,000 per life, crew, 155 mm shells, and why helicopters kill it so easily.

THE QUICK ANSWER

The Artillery Tank — the SPH-2 in the game files — is WARDOGS’ self-propelled 155 mm gun. Season 1 moved it to Career (WARDOG) level 90 with a $500,000 unlock; the files then put it at $8,000 per life. It seats a crew of three, carries an L52 cannon and an M249, and is immune to small arms — but players report two helicopter rockets are enough to kill it.

Unlock and cost

Publisher stated

BULKHEAD’s Season 1 changelog moved it twice in one stroke: “Artillery Tank: level 55 to level 90” on the Career track, and its track cost from $400,000 to $500,000. After that one-time payment, the game files list it at $8,000 per life — what you lose each time it is destroyed.

Why it dies, and who hunts it

Unverified

Small-arms immunity does not make it safe. A player on 9 October: “An armored 155mm platform that is blown up by 2 rockets is pretty crazy in this game,” adding that 50 rounds from its M249 into a rocket Little Bird’s cockpit did nothing. Others treat it as a glass cannon whose defence is range and team support. Hunting artillery is a recognised job: one player on 6 October described buying a helicopter, parachute, three C4 and a detonator to fly at the other teams’ guns, and the fan Field Manual (7 September, before launch) puts destroying an artillery tank at $14,000 — the highest vehicle bounty it lists.

Shells take space

Publisher stated

Season 1 made heavy ordnance a loadout decision: “155mm, 122mm and flare deployables now take up more room in your loadout.” The files list two 155 mm HE shells — both “High-explosive Shell, very large area of effect”, one described as highly effective against infantry — at $120 to $200 each depending on the entry.

What is not documented

Unverified

BULKHEAD has not published how the Artillery Tank is aimed — whether it fires on a map marker as the L81 mortar does, its maximum range, or its reload time — and this site has not crewed one. Players also reported a glitch on 8 October where a freshly spawned SPH-2 began “uncontrollably flying around HQ”. For indirect fire you can build yourself, the mortar is documented.
