Every flag Valve offers, and what WARDOGS set it to
This is the whole declaration, read from the listing's controller-support block on 2026-09-17. Valve's form has six flags and WARDOGS sets none of them. The seventh row is the one that turns this from an empty field into an answer.
| Declaration flag | WARDOGS |
|---|---|
| Full Xbox controller support | false |
| Partial Xbox controller support | false |
| PS4 controller support | false |
| PS5 controller support | false |
| Steam Input API | false |
| Gamepad preferred | false |
| Declaration wizard completed | true |
A completed declaration with nothing in it is a statement
This is the distinction most pages on this question get wrong, and it is the reason the row above matters. An unfilled field means nobody was asked. A completed wizard with every flag false means the studio was asked and answered none. Steam's own appdetails API cannot tell those two apart — it omits controller_support entirely when there is nothing to report — which is why this page reads the listing's declaration block instead of the API, and why a site quoting the API will tell you the information does not exist.
What this does not tell you
It does not tell you whether a pad works. A declaration is a promise about support, not a test result, and Steam Input can map a controller onto keyboard output for a game that never asked for it. So two things follow, and they point in opposite directions: if your pad does nothing, nothing official has been broken and there is no support commitment to appeal to; and if it works today, nothing official promises it will keep working after a patch. This site has not tested a pad in the released build and does not publish a bindings list for a device the publisher has not said it supports.
BULKHEAD has talked about gamepads somewhere
Worth recording because it is the one thread that suggests the topic is not closed. BULKHEAD's 11 August 2026 pre-order announcement lists gamepad support among the subjects its “10 Reasons NOT to Buy WARDOGS” devlog video covers. That establishes the studio has spoken about pads — it does not establish what it concluded, and no written statement of a conclusion has been published. Treat it as evidence of a conversation, not of a plan.
Flying is the same answer, with more detail
Helicopters are where most controller questions actually come from, and the answer does not change: there is no Steam-declared joystick or HOTAS support either, because Valve's declaration has no category for one. What does exist is a set of dated community notes on where the flight axes live and which bindings misbehave, plus BULKHEAD's own Season 1 note that input damping now applies to every helicopter input device. Those are on the flight page rather than here.

If your controller is not working
There is no official troubleshooting path to give you, and this page will not invent one. Corrected 2026-09-23: an earlier version said a pad doing nothing was the documented state, not a fault. That was wrong. The Steam declaration above is empty, but players on the game's own Report a Problem board quote in-game gamepad settings, and Team17 support has forwarded their controller reports to the team rather than calling them unsupported. So a pad that misbehaves may be a reported bug, not simply a missing feature. The dated reports are in the next section. If the game is failing to start or refusing to connect rather than ignoring your pad, that is a different failure and there are dated pages for it.
PS5 controller problems players have reported
These are player reports from the game's Steam boards, read on 2026-09-23. Each is one player's account. Team17 support replied to three of them, but its replies say the report was forwarded to the team. They do not confirm a bug, give a cause or promise a fix date. What the reports do establish is that the released client has its own gamepad settings. One player quotes the path as Gamepad > Advanced Settings, with separate Y-axis invert options for infantry and air vehicles. This site has not tested a pad and has not reproduced any of these.

Common questions
Does WARDOGS have controller support?
Not as anything declared. Checked 2026-09-17, the Steam listing's controller-support block has every flag false — full and partial Xbox, PS4, PS5, Steam Input API and gamepad preferred — and records BULKHEAD as having completed Valve's declaration. That makes it a declared none rather than an unanswered question.
Can I still use an Xbox or PS5 controller in WARDOGS?
Possibly, but nothing official covers it. Steam Input can map a pad onto keyboard output for a game that never requested controller support, so a pad may work without any of it being supported. This site has not tested that in the released build.
Is a joystick or HOTAS supported for flying?
Not as anything published. Valve's controller declaration has no joystick or HOTAS category to fill in, and WARDOGS declares no controller support of any kind. No axis map, sensitivity range or binding list for any flight device has been published.
Why do other sites say WARDOGS has controller support?
Most read Steam's appdetails API, which omits controller_support entirely when there is nothing to report — so an absent field gets read as missing information rather than as a declared none. The listing's own declaration block distinguishes the two and records a completed wizard with every flag false.
Will controller support be added?
Nobody has said. BULKHEAD's 11 August 2026 pre-order announcement names gamepad support as a topic its devlog video covers, which establishes the studio has discussed pads but not what it decided. No written commitment either way has been published.
Why is my PS5 controller not working in WARDOGS?
Nothing official explains it, and Steam declares no PS5 support. But the client has its own gamepad settings, and players have reported PS5 pad bugs on the game's Report a Problem board since 16 September 2026. Team17 support forwarded those reports to the team without confirming a cause. These are unverified player reports, and this site has not tested a pad.
Why is my helicopter pitch inverted with a controller?
Players using a PS5 controller have reported it. A 16 September 2026 report says the infantry and air-vehicle Y-axis invert settings bleed into each other and change between camera views. A 22 September report says the air-vehicle invert flips in first person only on helicopters with guns. Team17 support replied that it had similar reports and forwarded them. No fix has been announced.
Why does WARDOGS show Xbox buttons with a PS5 controller?
One player reported Xbox prompts with a PS5 pad on 9 September 2026, the day before Early Access. The thread had no replies as of 23 September, and nothing official addresses prompt icons. Treat it as a single unverified report.
My mouse stopped working after unplugging my controller. Is that WARDOGS?
One player reported it on 18 September 2026. After disconnecting a PS5 controller, the mouse stayed centred and did not recover, even in Windows, until a restart. Team17 support passed the report to the team the same day. It is a single unverified report, and the player was using a Logitech mouse.
