What BULKHEAD said happened
This is the only WARDOGS connection failure with a first-hand studio account, which is why it is graded differently from everything else in this section. In a six-minute launch recap published on 11 September, BULKHEAD says long queue waits let Steam login tickets expire: by the time a player reached the front, the credential they were holding was no longer valid. The studio describes sending 100 login requests per second while 10 succeeded, and says Hotfix #1 changed the client to obtain a fresh ticket at the front of the queue rather than carrying a stale one through it. Admission then proceeded in 10,000-player waves until the queue reached zero.
- Cause: Steam login tickets expiring during the wait, per BULKHEAD
- Scale: 100 login requests per second, 10 succeeding
- Fix: Hotfix #1 — fetch a fresh ticket at the front of the queue
- Outcome: 10,000-player admission waves, queue reached zero
No, it was not your install
Worth saying plainly, because the advice that circulated on the day said otherwise. A player who verified files, repaired an anti-cheat, updated drivers and reinstalled during the launch window was working on a machine that was not the problem. The studio's own account puts the failure between Steam and its servers. That is also the reason this page exists separately from the string pages: the other three have no published cause, and this one does.
What the recap does not establish
“Queue reached zero” is a result shown in a recap recorded about nineteen hours after release, not a live uptime reading. It does not establish that every later connection failure is resolved, that every disputed ban in the launch response had the same cause, or that an authentication error you are seeing today is this one. It is a dated account of one incident, and it is cited here as that.
Common questions
Was the WARDOGS launch queue my fault?
No. BULKHEAD's launch recap describes a server-side cause — Steam login tickets expiring during the wait — and a client fix shipped in Hotfix #1.
What fixed the WARDOGS launch queue?
Per BULKHEAD, Hotfix #1 changed the client to obtain a fresh Steam login ticket at the front of the queue instead of carrying an expired one through it. Admission then ran in 10,000-player waves.
Does this mean WARDOGS connection problems are over?
It does not. The recap is a dated account of the launch incident recorded about nineteen hours after release, not a live server-health reading.

Each source below carries its own read date and its own boundary note. A Steam thread establishes that a string exists and when it was first reported; it does not establish a cause.
